THE PODCAST FOR TOURING MUSICIANS & PERFORMING ARTISTS

Doug & Telisha Williams Interview

My guests today caught my attention when they launched their new food project which whet my appetite. It’s certainly different, and yet it is putting their talent and skills to use in a unique way.

SHOW NOTES

Wild Ponies offer dead right, honest songwriting delivered in a hauntingly beautiful yet gritty, neo-traditional Americana wrapper. Their newest release Galax salutes Wild Ponies’ traditional roots while exploring new, progressive territory.

They are the pinball that bounces between folk, rock & roll and country, and the Old-Time style will always weave its way through everything they do. It only took a couple of days to record Galax, but this is the album they’ve been making their whole lives.

Recent transplants from Southwest Virginia, they now live just outside of Nashville, TN. It is from there that they have launched their Dreamers Food Truck.

Doug-and-Telisha-Williams

So many touring artists have been challenged to use their creativity in new ways, adopt new technologies and transition from their lives before COVID to something different.

They have had to dig deep within themselves to come up with innovative ways to continue their work. Today I’m excited to be speaking with Doug and Telisha Williams, widely known as the band, Wild Ponies. They are reaching their audiences on multiple fronts, which we’ll get into, but none so innovative as their latest project. Let’s find out how their focus on community service, hard work, creativity, and food are all riding on their Dreamers Food Truck.

[02:34] Doug and Telisha talk about their roots and musical influences, how they got their name and how their Galax project came together.

[04:58] Their latest recording Galax pays homage to their old- timey roots. They share their vision for the project and their dream of who they wanted to play on it as well as where they wanted to record it.

[08:52] Since I am a foodie, they got my attention when I read in their newsletter about their Dreamers Food Truck project. Doug & Telisha enthusiastically describe their food truck mission and how they are creating a mobile community center with their “Pizza and Bowls for Creative Souls.”

[13:13] They talk about how there are different ways to serve their communities and the Dreamers Food Truck build upon all their other talents taking them into new neighborhoods and building new audiences. COVID has brought out various creative options, so they are encouraging their food truck audiences to be creative by offering creative prompts with ever dish they serve.

[16:39] The Dreamers Food Truck began rolling out into the neighborhoods of Nashville on November 1st, 2020. They have also added a fundraising aspect to their work to help various restaurants hard hit by the pandemic.

[17:43] Doug and Telisha share their menu ideas for the delicious and health conscious food choices they’ll be offering.

[21:22] We talked about the Dreamers Food Truck branding plans and who was helping them with their marketing and graphics.

[26:30] Kickstarter campaigns have funded multiple albums and now the Dreamers Food Truck. They discuss their Kickstarter success factors and how they consistently engage with their fans and friends to make them a part of their process.

[28:48] Doug and Telisha talk about their Wild Ponies Trail Ride and how this project builds a whole different relationship with their fans while joining to explore one of their own passions.

[31:13] Reaching their fans on multiple fronts includes their radio show on WSM Radio Route 650 called Whisky Wednesdays. They talk about its auspicious beginnings and how it evolved.

[35:16] They offer other artists some tasty pieces of advice for living your dream and doing your career.
