If you are a performing artist, a touring musician and were struggling to create a viable career before the pandemic, then this episode is for you. If you are weighing whether to keep or quit your day job, if you have one, and go full-time with your performing career, when you are able, then you want to meet my next guest and gain some insights into what’s possible.

I’m speaking with a dynamic music talent, a singer, dancer, actor, speaker and a licensed spiritual counselor. Dean Regan’s performances have taken him around the world including performances on Broadway and even The White House. Dean’s energetic, uplifting performances and experiences continue to change people’s lives.

[01:56] I check in with Dean to see how his family is doing in Los Angeles.

[03:04] Dean discusses the types of adaptations he has had to make during the stay-at-home period. He relates how his private practice previously incorporated music even while conducting meeting on the Zoom platform.

[03:40] His musical journey began early in life and has influenced everything aspect of his career. As a vocalist and musical theater “geek,” he talks about his tour experience, Broadway stint, and various entrepreneurial endeavors.

[04:48] He’s taken his musical expertise and his spiritual background as a licensed spiritual counselor and melded them to create his private practice and live experiences.

[05:30] Dean shares his how he also worked part-time and full-time in other work environments as so many other artists often do. He parleyed his early childhood typing skills into a higher paid word processor at law firms.

[07:10] And he also talks about giving notice at a job that wasn’t suited to his talents and what inspired him to quit.

[07:59] He speaks of starting his brand, Living in Concert with Life. He works with people to experience and express their best life possible by examining the things that inspire and the things that diminish. His events inspire groups of people using music and his unique spiritual training. His motto is words can lift you up or mess you up.

[11:59] Dean elaborates on the program, Living in Concert with Life.
He also discusses moving more fully into the online world to present his work to individuals and organizations. During these extraordinary COVID times, it is all about how you connect, uplift and inspire.

[15:26] We launch into a discussion of how to bring together all the facets of who you are as an artist and a person and stop compartmentalizing your life to fit different categories of being. The freedom and sense of self that emerges is truly inspiring. We can then create perfect partnerships.

[18:05] Dean frames a conversation of niche marketing into a more nurturing perspective, “Who are the people I am seeking who are seeking me.” Then we talk about where he is finding his people.

[20:00] He gets down to the nitty gritty of his process and how incorporates music into his client work. Hint, in some cases it involves creating playlists. The chemistry that music influences in the brain and the neurological changes music facilitates can make huge differences in your state of being. Dean uses this in his work.

[22:22] Dean then shares what a live experience is likely to incorporate once we get back to them. Again, he uses neuroscience tools to unleash chemicals in the brain by infusing his events with music. He incorporates live piano pieces, his own performance of certain story songs at just the right moment to get the perfect change of state of being.

[27:00] He is currently not planning live events but rather using his talents to work with organizations and individuals where his work can impact lives singularly and whole communities.

[28:00] Dean talks about how important Yoga had been in his life and how now he is able to incorporate that into his daily practice once again with online classes.

[29:00] Dean shares some advice for other performers who might be searching for ways to move forward.
