THE PODCAST FOR TOURING MUSICIANS & PERFORMING ARTISTS

Conference Strategies
Streaming and Live

In this episode I help you navigate one of the major career boosting events that puts you in front of potential bookers, even in this Covid-19 environment. I’m talking about Booking Conferences and Trade Shows.

SHOW NOTES

Jeri Goldstein was a booking agent and manager for 20 years. She was a concert promoter and tour manager. Currently she coaches performing artists, agents and performing industry professionals. Her award-winning book, How To Be Your Own Booking Agent THE Musician’s & Performing Artist’s Guide To Successful Touring is now in its 4th revised edition. With over 55,000 sold world-wide it has been used as a text by music business courses in the U.S. and Canada. She presents live and online seminars and courses.

If you have avoided participating in a booking conference because it is just too overwhelming, too expensive and scary, this episode offers relief and a plan. Many Conferences are now having to pivot to embrace new presentation platforms as they face the impact of COVID-19. Let’s talk Conference Strategies, Streaming and Live.

[03:09] First, let’s talk about Attending a Streaming Conference Event.

[05:56] After determining which conferences might be perfect for your act, there are 5 big questions to ask yourself.

[06:44] Here are some suggestions of how to create your online marketing materials suitable for an online streaming conference.

[07:20] How can you make your act and your marketing materials stand out in this highly competitive environment?

[08:23] Now let’s move along to Attending and Preparing for a Live Conference.

[08:42] Most conferences create their programming to encourage networking with other attendees.

[9:48] Here’s a suggestion as to how to familiarize yourself with your chosen conferences so you might prepare to attend in the future and maximize your efforts.

[10:40] Review previous year conferences to get a better sense of all it has to offer so you might be more prepared when you attend.

[11:46] Here is my Exhibit Hall Protocol. I suggest taking three trips around the hall and pay attention to different aspects each time.

So if you want to avoid excess expense and target your audience more directly with interesting displays and materials, well- prepared showcases and more confidence and professionalism, follow the suggestions for attending conferences and trade shows made in this episode. Be prepared for live or streaming events.

I’ll explore how to make the most out of a showcase experience in another episode.
